Awards 2017 Fantasy Movie League – Week 13

Well, to no one’s surprise, ColoRadJoe’s fifth win sealed the deal, making him the victor of our Awards 2017 season. Come get your fucking trophy Joe if you can pry it from my hands, you clairvoyant motherfucker!

Seriously though, great job on a massive season. Your final total gross also eclipses Radley Cinemas’ high score from the Fall 2016 season, which is quite a feat in what some claim is the most difficult season of the game. How many 4-Day weekends were there? (Too many if you ask me, dammit)

On the other end of the spectrum, Movies After Ass is also a winner! Winner of another 13 tacos for coming in last. Happy Birthday, Zach!

Get Out outperformed expectations, obtaining the BP bonus and granting the four teams who played it 3x the advantage. Unfortunately for three of those teams, the action-thriller Collide didn’t debut better than most arthouse releases like Lion and collided with a wall of disappointment, handing ColoRadJoe the win.

The fun continues next week as Spring 2017 begins with the release of Logan while Radley Cinemas stares melancholic at the ring of dust on the shelf indicating where his Nerdy used to stand.

Awards 2017 Fantasy Movie League – Week 12

As we approach the end of the season, with ColoRadJoe dominating, every dollar counts in the climb to the top. However, things just got much more difficult for the rest of the teams because ColoRadJoe claimed another Perfect Cinema and the bonuses associated with it. With that, the Nerdy is his to lose next week and it would take a massive mistake to change the tides for this season.

Radley Cinemas came very close to the PC but, of course, the one week Split doesn’t do better than expected is the week he played it.  It was a close battle for the teams in the middle this week and sadly, it looks like Doctor Acula’s Movie Funhouse forgot to set a lineup again.

Next week is it. Not much will change unless ColoRadJoe really blows it or some movie he doesn’t pick does gangbusters. You’re so close ColoRadJoe… don’t mess this up. (Please mess this up)

Awards 2017 Fantasy Movie League – Week 11

John Wick 2 blew away expectations and with a low price, inserting 4x into your lineup was the way to go. Almost everyone in the Reel Nerds league seemed to see it coming though. Shockingly, that wasn’t actually the BP for the week. That win goes to Lion, and if you doubled up on it and Split, you had your Perfect Cinema. No one in our league did that, but Tyler Perry’s A Madea Cineplex and ColoRadJoe came very close, with Tyler Perry’s A Madea Cineplex taking the win because he set his lineup sooner.

Awards 2017 Fantasy Movie League – Week 10

Not a big week with the Perfect Cinema only grossing $53,781,777 mostly off of the BP Hidden Figures. Overall, the results were so close between all teams. PeterParker takes the crown with one of the most diverse winning lineups in awhile. Detonatormonkey and ColoRadJoe tied for a VERY close second off the power of XXX3.

Next week, will an expensive The Lego Movie alone be a better play than multiple John Wick 2‘s or 50 Shades Darker?

Awards 2017 Fantasy Movie League – Week 9

Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. SHIT!!!!

Apparently, the Resident Evil audience has eroded and I guess people didn’t care if A Dog’s Purpose is to be a slave to man’s irresponsible filmmaking practices. This has caused a major shakeup in our leagues’ standings. Radley Cinemas, who was leading by $60m two weeks ago, now finds himself in third place overall, coming in dead last in Week 9 and now $60 behind the new #1! Despite placing 2nd this week, ColoRadJoe is the new league leader by $40m dollars ahead of the new #2, Tyler Perry’s A Medea Cineplex. Brad is currently boarding up his home refusing to hand over the Nerdy is ColoRadJoe wins out. “He’ll have to take it from my cold, dead hands!” he screamed from a third floor balcony.

Four other teams did well responding to La La Land’s awards surge. The Oscar nominations clearly convinced people still on the fence to come out for it. Including it in their lineup keeps them chasing our leaders.

Next week we find out how well the Ring franchise is still doing or not doing.

Awards 2017 Fantasy Movie League – Week 8

Wow. People were really into Split. Did not see that coming. Sadly, no one doubled up on this week’s BP but ColoRadJoe had faith in the surprisingly strong Monster Trucks and claimed another victory on the season. Oddly, while Movies After Ass returned to setting lineups, Doctor Acula’s Movie Funhouse looks like he forgot to.

Next week, Resident Evil 6 looks to do some Underworld business versus a dog movie. What could go wrong?

Awards 2017 Fantasy Movie League – Week 7

Hidden Figures continues a fantastic run while La La Land gets an awards boost. This week, PeterParker and Radley Cinemas split the #1 spot but the win goes to Peter who locked his lineup earliest.  Not far behind were ColoRadJoe, Dr. Acula, and Tyler Perry who each went mostly in on Hidden Figures and Silence.

Next weekend it’s Split vs. XXX 3… will Shamalyan get his mojo back or will we discover audiences have been missing out on the adventures of Xander Cage?

Awards 2017 Fantasy Movie League – Week 6

Look at that. We’re already half way through this season!

Hidden Figures took down Rogue One this weekend by a slim margin, and it seems most of our players were hip to its fortunes. Radley Cinemas got another win and a Perfect Cinema out of it while Tyler Perry’s A Medea Cineplex and ColoRadJoe matched each other for second place.

Next week is yet another fucking 4-day weekend, and with 6 new releases in play, get ready to see everybody’s lineups get screwed over. I’m not even gonna deal with it right now, it feels so complicated. I’m just gonna hum the La La Land score until I forget this is a thing I have to deal with in 3 days.

Awards 2017 Fantasy Movie League – Week 5

Another four-day week comes to a close with PeterParker getting his first win of the season. La La Land and Passengers were the paths to success, which Tyler Perry’s A Medea Cineplex also capitalized on. Detonatormonkey and ColoRadJoe split third place with Doctor Acula’s Movie Funhouse very close behind in 4th/5th. No one found the BP or the PC this week.

Next week, Underworld: Evolution is the big new release with Hidden Figures expanding so either of those two will most likely fill some lineups. If Hidden Figures’ previews go well I think we’ll have another close week on the board.

Awards 2017 Fantasy Movie League – Week 4

*exhale* Well that was a stressful weekend. The numbers were all over the place with players trading the top spot daily as estimates rolled in. With the added difficulty of predicting how much the box office would dip on Christmas Eve and how much it would gain with a holiday Monday, and all the new releases arriving either Wednesday or Friday or expanding Sunday, you might as well have thrown a bunch of darts at a board to pick your lineup. The final PC was 1x Sing, 1x Passengers, and 6x Fences (although, according to FML, some studios still haven’t finished reporting).

Radley Cinemas picked up his first win of the season and took the overall lead from ColoRadJoe, who claims the 3rd spot this week, just ahead of Tyler Perry’s A Medea Cineplex in 4th. Movies After Ass set another lineup this week, grabbed the only BP bonus, and managed not to come in last because Doctor Acula’s Movie Funhouse didn’t set a lineup. He let last week’s lineup rollover without replacing the Sat/Sun Rogue One combo and thus, with two empty screens, grossed a mere $3,477,944. Ouch.

Next week is another 4-day box office tally, but no major releases should make Week 5 a little easier to predict.
