Fall 2016 Fantasy Movie League – Week 6 Recap

This week is NOT for the birds! (see what I did there?) Storks continues its disappointing run as a potential best-performer by giving it up to dark horse Masterminds. Most of the league invested in Storks this week when they should have believed in Deepwater Horizon, which while not the BP, didn’t have as steep a decline as predicted and thusly, Jason’s Farthouse Cineplex claims his second week of the season. It was a close race for the top 6 teams this week and now we’re at the midpoint of the season. Can Radley Cinemas hold his lead to the end? Will Movies After Ass go on an unprecedented Perfect Cinema streak?

Fall 2016 Fantasy Movie League – Week 5 Recap

If you suspected Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children would over-perform this weekend, you’re probably feeling really good about yourself right now. Storks did surprisingly well too, leading projections for the Best Performer bonus all weekend, but not enough. When the actuals were tallied, MPHFCP won the crown and completely shook up the rankings. Congrats to Jason’s Farthouse Cineplex for his first win of the season! And props to Detonatormonkey for being the only one to roll the dice on our movie of the week, Masterminds, even though it ultimately disappointed.

Fall 2016 Fantasy Movie League – Week 4 Recap

Wow! It was a close one this week with only a couple million dollars separating the rankings. Most everybody had the same strategy of doubling-up on Storks and filling the rest out with Bridget Jones’ Baby because Magnificent Seven was SO expensive. Ultimately, actuals for this week’s new releases were well under their projections, so to win, it came down to how you programmed those other six screens. The Perfect Cinema this week was $90,016,121 from 1x Storks, 3x Sully, and 4x of the Best Performer of Don’t Breathe. It was late-comer Tyler Perry’s A Medea Cineplex’s investment in 3x Don’t Breathe, adding a bonus $6 million to his score, that made the big difference and rocketed him up the chart to #1 for the week.

At the bottom, Movies After Ass finally showed up. With three weeks worth of revenue lost, can he rise like the phoenix? “It’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock and roll.”

Fall 2016 Fantasy Movie League – Week 3 Recap

Welcome back to the Reel Nerds Podcast Fantasy Movie League for Week 3!

This weeks Perfect Cinema was anybody’s guess. While it was expected that Blair Witch and Bridget Jones’ Baby were going to compete with Sully for first place this week, the reality is that those two movies barely made a dent in Sully’s box office. Radley Cinemas doubled up on this, as well as the better than expected returns for Snowden and the Best Performing movie of the week of Kubo, and easily won this week’s contest. Newcomers Detanatormonkey and Tyler Perry’s A Madea Cineplex managed to climb the rankings quite quickly and PeterParker has finally climbed out of the basement thanks to Jason’s Farthouse leaving three screens open this week and losing $6 million from his total which would have put him above most everybody. Movies After Ass, despite assurances he would pick a lineup this week, is once again a taco.

Fall 2016 Fantasy Movie League – Week 2 Recap

Welcome to the results of Week 2 in the Reel Nerds Podcast Fantasy Movie League! We’ve added two new competitors to the league with Tyler Perry’s A Medea Cineplex (Henry) and Detonatormonkey (Ryan formerly of Nerd Fap Podcast)!

It was a wild weekend with ColoRadJoe (Joe) obtaining the Perfect Cinema (which carries a $5 bonus) early on, but once ‘estimates’ were revised, Radley Cinemas (Brad) leapfrogged into the top spot. Unfortunately for him, ‘actuals’ eventually were decided and ColoRadJoe retook the lead by $261,759. Radley Cinemas still holds the season lead, but not by much.

PeterParker (Ryan) once again tried to counter-program the expected lineup and would be completely at the bottom of the league if not for Movies After Ass (Zach) who once again failed to pick a lineup.

Next week will be another week tricky predictions with Blair Witch being the obvious front-runner. Is there enough goodwill from the original left to attract audiences? Is it compelling enough to bring in new audiences? Stay tuned!

Fall 2016 Fantasy Movie League – Week 1 Recap

Welcome, nerds, to the results of the first official week of our Reel Nerds Podcast fantasy movie league! We practiced over the summer movie season and now, for the next 14 weeks, we’re going to really find out who, in a landscape of less obvious blockbusters, which of us has what it takes to generate the most revenue for our theaters.

As you can see, Radley Cinemas (Brad) narrowly won this week, with Jason’s Farthouse Cineplex (Jason) taking second by an even slimmer margin. I swear, yesterday when I checked the results, ColoRadJoe (Joe) was in second, but I guess FML did some recalculating overnight and here we are. PeterParker (Ryan) really doubled down on “The Light Between Oceans” thinking it would be a sleeper hit like “Me Before You”? Doctor Acula’s Movie Funhouse (James) didn’t even update his sparse lineup from last week and still beat him.

At the very bottom is Movies After Ass (Zach) who has failed to play for several weeks now, so we can only assume he’s pursuing the Taco award.
