Hollywood-Indie Filmmaker Bradley Haag has been tapped by Universal to helm and write a gritty, more dangerous Fifty Shades of Grey. Haag best known for his indie hit, Jean Claude Van Damme’s Damn Van and the Thunderbolt series makes the jump to big-budgeted erotic thrillers.
Universal released a statement, “Bradley Haag’s unique vision is just what Fifty Shades of Grey needs. A gritty, revenge thriller, with lots of sex.”

Haag’s ascension to A-list has been a long time coming. Haag is the visionary behind his own production company, Nebulus Visions. Universal has seen Haag’s newest film, Last Night at the Esquire, which is generating serious awards buzz.
Haag plans on shooting Fifty Shades of Grey and Blood this summer. No cast has been announced so far, but Haag has a clear vision. “I normally steer clear of these types of films. But I do like to watch people explore their erotic side from behind a camera. And I also like revenge and unneeded violence and gore. My pitch to Universal was simple, “What if Anastasia wasn’t a wallflower, but a tough as nails assassin and her next mission was to take out Christian Grey? But they fall in love and fuck. A lot.”

Universal liked what they heard and gave Haag his $100 million budget on his pitch alone.
